Gertie’s Gardeners

Gerties Gardeners

When this group started in 2021 the idea was to do some ad hoc planting i.e. Rosebery Park flowerbed for Borough in Bloom 2021 and we were delighted to help Epsom win a silver medal in the competition.

Now we have a new and ongoing challenge

The Gertrude Longhurst Memorial Garden

This garden was set out in 1954 in memory of Gertrude Longhurst. In 1972 it was still looking lovely with a raised bed flower clock and beautiful planting in the front bed and benches to sit and enjoy the sunshine. However, by 2022 when we became involved it was looking very unloved.

We’ve started to prune, weed, and sweep. Sam Whitehead the Epsom & Ewell Streetcare Manager and two of her team Pete and Trevor are helping us to make the garden beautiful again.

We planted a sensory garden at the front on May 26th 2022 ready for the Borough in Bloom judging on July 5th.

We continue looking after the garden on a regular monthly basis by meeting on the last Tuesday of each month to sweep, prune and tidy as necessary and try to finish with coffee and chat at one of the cafes in the village.

If you’ve downsized and miss pottering in the garden or if you just like to do a bit of light weeding, pruning and sweeping then speak to Fiona or Tony, they would be delighted to welcome you to the group.
