Historic Short Walks

Tread in the footsteps of history!

This new group is for urban strolls such as the boundary of the City of London, from the Tower to the Barbican, to see surviving bits of the Roman wall, and Borough High Street, the historic start of Roman Stane Street with some surprising survivals. There are several other interesting parts of this ancient route, including through Ewell and Epsom, and for those willing to don boots various short sections of the medieval Pilgrims’ Way. So come along to Walk and Learn!

Our first walk was in October when we followed the perimeter of the City of London viewing the surviving pieces of the Roman Wall.

For November we started at Borough High Street (start of Roman Stane Street) viewing historic sites including the George Inn, john Harvard’s house and the site of Chaucer’s Tabard Inn and Charles Dickens own parish church, featured in ‘Little Dorritt’.

We have space for two or three more members.
