The Photography Group was started in early 2019 and has a membership of some fifteen budding photographers. Believe it or not we’ve actually had a few people join during lockdown so it will be nice to actually meet them when things get back to “normal”. We find that fifteen is about the right number, and we are not looking for more members. Before lockdown we met every third Monday of the month for a couple of hours at the Longmead Centre in Epsom. Regular meetings were interspersed with location shoots as and when the weather permitted but particularly during the Spring, Summer and Autumn.
There are a few experienced photographers but members mostly have little experience and joined so they could learn more about all aspects of photography so they might take betters photographs. Since the pandemic struck, we have of course not met at the Longmead Centre but have had a number of location shoots, observing social distancing rules as appropriate. Like a lot of groups, we’ve kept in touch via zoom although many of our members do not find such modern technology particularly friendly to their skill sets! So, contact tends to be mostly through emails, which works just fine. We have a dedicated website, which is very much work in progress, but it will allow members to share their images, tips, bits of information and the like. It brings us together as a group. Members are very much looking forward to meeting again, or at the very least going on location shoots when the covid-19 situation allows. In the meantime, we would like to wish our fellow u3a members a safe and well 2021.
